Learn How to:

1) Purchase and use proper materials
Step up to the cashier like you know what you’re doing. Don’t be confused with all the options on the store racks and pay too much. I’ll let you know what you need to buy.

2) Choose a compelling composition
A good drawing starts with a good composition. A drawing is pleasing to the eye when the elements in the piece are arranged in a balanced way.

3) Draw accurately with the aid of grids
Gridding your reference and your drawing paper will ensure you an accurate drawing. There will be no disappointment for an inaccurate drawing.

4) Give function to the lines in your drawings
Learn how to give nuance to your lines and marks, making your drawing pleasing and appealing.

5) See values and shade them making your drawings come to life
Correct values are going to make your drawing pop. Learn how to shade these values to give your objects form.

6) Use the drawing media in various ways
You will use pencils varying in hardness. The softer the pencil the darker the mark. It’s fun to see what each of these pencils can do for your drawing.

7) Know when your drawing is finished
It’s important to stand back from your work periodically to see how it is coming along. Knowing when a drawing is “finished” may be the hardest thing to learn.

When you sign up for the Intro to Drawing Workshop, you also receive 30 days of Critiques for free ($25 value).

*Students will need a small assortment of drawing pencils, erasers and drawing paper. They, also, will need to be able to take a digital photo and have knowledge on how to upload pictures to the internet.

Structure of the Workshop

blog  a web log, an interactive web site that maintains an ongoing chronicle of information
post  a single entry on the blog

This online workshop will allow you to attend in the comfort and convenience of your own home.

The workshop is conducted on a private blog available only to registered students. There you will post your six steps of your drawing. I will respond to your questions and your posts through the blog.  Learn from the other students posts and comments as well as your own.  You will be given a posting procedure to follow so as to guarantee sufficient feedback. Please allow me 12- 24 hours to respond to each of your posts.

You will make 6-7 posts. They are as follows:
#1  Your reference for your drawing
#2  Your initial sketch with grids
#3  Worked drawing with interesting lines
#4  Initial shading of values
#5  Values worked further
#6  Final drawing
#7  Retouched final drawing if necessary

The reference you use will be a gray scale printout, or a black and white copy of a photograph of your own. The image I used will also be available for you to use if you wish.
After each of your posts, I will comment and critique your drawing so far, then give you further instruction on how to proceed with your drawing for your next post.
Try to finish your workshop as quickly as your schedule allows. One week to ten days would be ideal. You will get more out of it if you don’t let your drawing sit for too long between posts.
After your final post, I will make one last comment and leave you with a follow up exercise. You then will have 30 more days to post what you like and receive comments and suggestions.
*Your guide will be a .pdf file emailed as an attachment for you to print out.

*There are demonstration pages with photos which will go through each of the steps explaining what you will go through with your drawing. Use this demo as a visual guide to aid you with each step of your drawing.

See other students work and exchange comments with them.

You get the entire workshop with the course guide ($120 value) and 30 days of critique ($25 value) for only $50.
